“ Mysterious Case of Giulio Marconi”
A SHORT HORROR STORY — FICTION
17 Sep, 1961 — Marconi was a simple old man from Italy who lived in Detroit. He worked hard at the local grocery store, and he loved nothing more than spending time with his family. But everything changed when he bought a new VW car.
At first, Marconi was thrilled with his purchase. The car was spacious and comfortable, and it had all the latest features. But soon, he began to notice strange things happening. The doors would open and close on their own, and strange noises would come from the engine. Marconi tried to ignore it, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.
One night, Marconi was driving home from work when he heard a strange noise coming from the back of the car. He pulled over to check it out, but he couldn’t see anything. He got back in the driver’s seat and continued on his way, but the noise continued. It was getting louder and more persistent, and Marconi began to feel a sense of unease.
As he drove down a dark, deserted road, the car suddenly lurched to a stop. Marconi tried to restart the engine, but it wouldn’t budge. He got out of the car to check the engine, but he couldn’t find anything wrong. He decided to call for help, but his phone had no signal.
As he stood by the side of the road, Marconi heard strange noises coming from the car. He walked towards it, and saw something that made his blood run cold. The windows were fogged up, and he could see the outline of a figure inside. He tried to open the door, but it was locked. He peered through the window, and saw the figure of a woman sitting in the backseat.
Marconi was terrified. He had no idea how the woman had gotten into his car, or how long she had been there. He tried to communicate with her, but she didn’t respond. He decided to break the window and let her out, but as he raised his fist, the woman vanished into thin air.
Marconi was shocked and confused. He got back into the driver’s seat and tried to start the engine again. This time, it roared to life, and he sped away as fast as he could.
As he drove home, Marconi couldn’t shake the feeling that something was still wrong with the car. He took it to a mechanic, but they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. He took it to another mechanic, and another, but no one could find anything wrong.
Eventually, Marconi gave up. He sold the car to a junkyard, hoping to be rid of it once and for all. But the strange occurrences didn’t stop. He would see the van parked outside his house, even though he knew it was impossible. He would hear strange noises coming from the van, even though it was no longer there.
Marconi began to realize that the car was haunted. The woman he had seen was the ghost of a previous owner, who had died in the car in a terrible accident. She was trapped there, unable to move on. And now, Marconi was trapped too, unable to escape the car’s ghostly presence.
By the end of September, Marconi was driven to madness by the haunted car. He became a recluse, never leaving his house, and never speaking to anyone. And when he died, his body was found in the driver’s seat of the car, with a look of terror frozen on his face. His body was later sent back to Morcone, Italy and laid to rest.
